On Saturday, Sept. 14, local environmental nonprofit, Save the Great South Bay, held Oyster Ball 2024 at the Mansion at Timber Point.
The mission of Save the Great South Bay is to sustainably restore water quality in the Great South Bay for future generations of the community.
SGSB partners with oyster growers and has created multiple oyster sanctuaries while advocating for oyster habitat restoration.
An annual celebration, community leaders, environmental advocates, and oyster enthusiasts come together to honor two award recipients for improving and protecting the water quality of the Great South Bay. This year’s winners were Suffolk County executive Edward Romaine and New York State Sen. Monica Martinez.
The 2024 Volunteer of the Year Award will be presented to Janet Marie Soley for her outstanding efforts.
Local Great South Bay oyster farmers, including Maris Stella, Neguntatogue Oysters, Red Tiger Seafood, Blue Island Oysters and Captree Clam personally shucked oysters for attendees.
This event was made possible through the SGSB’s support from Regina Cigna, Your Waterfront Realtor, Rechler Equity Partners, Jake’s 58, and Lessing’s Hospitality.
