Parcel acquired on Conklin in Patchogue

The town board held its regularly scheduled meeting on the afternoon of Sept. 14. It was a quiet meeting, one without any public commentary. Still, a number of resolutions were passed, including a plan to purchase land, days designated to important causes, and more.

A resolution authorized the town to purchase a 4-acre parcel of land on Conklin Avenue in Patchogue. The owner of the undeveloped land agreed to sell it to the town, who will preserve it and keep it undeveloped.

“Anytime the town purchases property for open-space purposes, it cannot be developed in perpetuity,” said councilman Neil Foley, Brookhaven Town Board.

Board members also passed resolutions meant to spotlight national and international days of remembrance. The town officially recognized September as the month of Brookhaven Goes Purple.

Going “purple” is part of a nationwide movement, started by the Herren Project, to raise awareness of substance-use disorder and celebrate those in recovery. Additionally, Sept. 18, 2021, was designated as World Marrow Donor Day in Brookhaven Town. According to www.worldmarrowdonorday.org, the event occurs on the third Saturday of September and will be celebrated in more than 50 countries across the world.

At the next meeting, slated for Thursday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m., several public hearings will take place. One is for a proposed zone change to accommodate a multi-tenant industrial warehouse on Horseblock Road in Medford. Another is for an amendment to the town’s code of ethics and disclosure.
