The Patchogue-Medford girls soccer team’s playoff run ended on Oct. 25 with a 1-0 second-round loss on the road to Commack.

The match was marked by tough defense on both sides, The only goal didn’t come until 11:30 left in the second half, when Commack’s Ella Aglietti put a shot past Pat-Med goalie Madison Eddington.

Eddington, a sophomore, turned in a strong performance. She made several dramatic saves, including on a pair of penalty kicks, one in the first half and one in the second.

“She did a great job today,” Pat-Med head coach Chris Grieco said of Eddington. “She does a great job every game.”

Despite the loss, Pat-Med saw a significant improvement from last year. The Raiders finished the season at 10-5-2, compared with a mark of 5-7-1 in 2022.

“They came out fighting and left everything out on the field, which is what we asked them to do,” Grieco said of his team.

Pat-Med came into the playoffs a No. 7 seed and won its first-round match 2-1 against Bay Shore.

They then had to face No. 2 seed Commack, which had a first-round bye and had beaten Pat-Med during the regular season. Commack, which made it to the county finals last season, moved on to play Smithtown East on Oct. 28.

Meanwhile, the Pat-Med boys soccer team lost its first-round playoff match to Lindenhurst, 2-0, on Oct. 24.
