Recycle e-waste at Tiny Raccoon Books

Posted

Tiny Raccoon Books, at 277 Railroad Avenue in Sayville, recently announced the launch of an electronic waste recycling program at their bookstore. Instead of having materials collect dust in garages, basements, or junk drawers, Tiny Raccoon Books is now serving as a drop-off location for e-waste recycling.

The initiative is the latest drive the independent bookstore is hosting, and serves as a way to prevent waste from being illegally dumped or put into landfills.

From Aug. 5, 2026 on, Tiny Raccoon Books can accept the following items for e-waste recycling:

  • Computers (laptops and desktops, servers, mainframes)
  • Monitors (CRT and flat screen)
  • Handheld devices (smartphones, tablets, MP3 players, e-readers, etc.)
  • Network devices (routers, hubs, modems, etc.)
  • Peripherals (keyboards, mice, cables, cords, chargers, etc.)
  • Components (hard drives, CD-ROMs, circuit boards, power supplies, etc.)
  • Printers, scanners, fax machines
  • TVs, VCRs, DVRs, DVD and Blu-ray players
  • Digital converter boxes, cable/satellite receivers
  • Video game consoles and accessories
  • Cell phones, pagers, PDAs
  • Audiovisual equipment (cameras, microphones, stereo equipment, etc.)

Tiny Raccoon Books does not accept:

  • Batteries, except lead-acid batteries from uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems
  • Media such as floppy disks, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, and cassette tapes
  • Household appliances, including air conditioners and microwaves
  • Smoke detectors
  • Humidifiers and dehumidifiers

If you have more than 20 pieces to drop off, please email the store at tinyraccoonbooks@gmail.com

Otherwise, you can drop off during business hours Wednesday to Sunday, 11-7 p.m.
