Smith Point Bridge clearances

Posted

The project, which will replace the existing bridge with a high-level fixed bridge, is expected to have a 75-year lifespan. The replacement bridge will be constructed on a new alignment, located about 150 west of the existing bridge. The alignment will tie in with CR 75 at the traffic circle at the southern end of the proposed bridge, in Smith Point County Park, and will connect to the existing curved roadway alignment at the north end of the bridge.

The profile of the new bridge will provide 55.6-foot clearance over the navigational channel, with pier spacing allowing for a 100-foot horizontal clearance. The top will provide two 11-foot lanes with 4-foot shoulders and a single 12-foot-wide protected shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists. The fishing pier will be built beneath the north end of the bridge.

In addition, the existing bridge will be removed after construction. Construction will begin in mid-2024 and last about 2.5 years.
