Students visit Citi Field

Posted

Last month, nearly 200 students from all of William Floyd High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs took part in a day at Citi Field sponsored by the Haugland Group and presented by Sports Power Clean Energy. The students participated in a breakout session with Sports Power, learning about offshore wind turbines and home energy efficiency simulations. The session helped promote workforce development and job exploration within the fields of clean energy and technology.

In addition to these breakout sessions, students enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of Citi Field. This included visiting the media area, getting to watch batting practice up close and learning the history of both the stadium and the New York Mets. Later on, students participated in an “In Game Sports Power Clean Energy Photo Scavenger Hunt” for their final activity.

As part of this experience, the William Floyd CTE program was featured on the Citi Field jumbotron and live Mets broadcast, with the live broadcast specifically highlighting the program. Once the day was over, all participants were given a $25 voucher for concessions or memorabilia and got to their seats to watch the Mets host the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. The group witnessed the Mets pick up a big 10-6 win over their rivals, with one student even catching a foul ball of the bat of MLB star Bryce Harper! The day was exciting as it was informative, leaving students with new insights into potential career opportunities and many happy memories at the ballpark.
