This Saturday, Jan, 25, starting at 10 a.m., Operation Vest’s fourth annual 22° Run & Plunge will occur at Walker Park in Brightwaters. The rain-or-shine event will commence with a 2.2-mile flat run/walk through scenic Brightwaters, followed by a Polar Plunge into the Great South Bay.
Participants are welcome to register for the 10 a.m. run/walk, the 11 a.m. polar plunge, or both. Registration for the 2.2-mile race is priced at $45 and includes a long-sleeved T-shirt and lip balm. The Polar Plunge is priced at $35 and includes lip balm and a first-come, first-served mug. Registration for both events is priced at $70 and includes a long sleeve T-shirt, chapped stick, and first-come, first-serve mug. The virtual 2.2-mile is priced at $40. Operation Vest (Veterans Ending Suicide Together) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2020 that works to eradicate suicide among veterans. Founders Stefan Hespeler and Jenny Mortenson Hespeler work with local organizations and veterans to raise awareness and remove mental health stigma for veterans and active military members.
