The Suffolk County News held its annual Holiday Greeting Fund collection, where readers donated to the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce’s Main Street Fire Relief Fund and the Sayville Pantry.
With proceeds given to both charities, community members who donated expressed their support for the institutions as well as the particularly acute need for help this holiday season.
In December, the Sayville Pantry was broken into and $250 in cash was stolen. This came after the pantry put out a desperate call for donations with bare shelves. The community rallied after hearing of this and donated enough to once again fill the donation room of the pantry.
The devastating Main Street fire that occurred in October affected six Main Street businesses, with two stores completely decimated. The chamber set a goal of raising $150,000 to go directly to affected businesses and as of print, hovered around the $100,000 mark.
To donate food, cash, gift cards, or gas cards to the pantry, please drop off in person at the Gillette House in Gillette Park in downtown Sayville on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday between 9:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.
