This Fourth of July was celebrated on the Carmans River by over 50 guests on the fifth annual Fourth of July Paddle.

The relatively new tradition allows attendees to leisurely paddle along the Carmans River at night while experiencing a fireworks display. Guests were guided out to the widest part of the river to experience a 180-degree show of light and color, provided by neighboring areas.

“This tour was created with a very simple idea: ‘let’s take a handful of enthusiasts out on the river and give them a unique view of the Brookhaven fireworks,’” said Joseph Corrar, organizer of the event.

By the second year, Corrar said their following had grown, with over 18 people on 14 boats. Fast-forward to 2021, and they were sold out with over 50 boats. Tickets for July and August paddles are available on the Carmans River Canoe and Kayak II website.
