Suffolk County Police have arrested three people in connection with nine armed robberies that occurred at businesses located in the Third, Fifth and Seventh Precincts since September 22.
Jack Hewitt and Hailey Miller entered 7-Eleven, located at 2269 Sunrise Highway, Islip, displayed a gun and stole cigarettes, cash, and scratch-off lottery tickets on September 30 at approximately 11:20 p.m. They fled to a waiting vehicle driven by Jack’s brother Brice Hewitt.
Major Case detectives pulled over the vehicle on Alder Drive in Mastic Beach approximately 30 minutes after the robbery. Brice Hewitt and Miller were arrested during the stop and Jack Hewitt was arrested after a short foot pursuit.
In addition to being charged with Robbery 1st Degree for robbing the7-Eleven in Islip, the trio was charged with Robbery 1st Degree for the following:
• Subway, located at 895 Montauk Highway, Shirley, on September 22 at 8:10 p.m.
• 7-Eleven, located at 4490 Sunrise Highway, Oakdale, on September 22 at 9:59 p.m.
• BP gas station, located at 5665 Sunrise Highway, Holbrook, on September 24 at 8:45 p.m.
• Speedway, located at 525 William Floyd Parkway, Shirley, on September 24 at 11:05 p.m.
• Speedway, located at 3415 Veterans Memorial Highway, Ronkonkoma, on September 26 at 10:53 p.m. (attempted robbery)
• 7-Eleven, located at 751 North Country Road, Rocky Point, on September 26 at 11:41 p.m.
• Family Dollar, located at 30 The Green, Shirley, on September 27 at 9:58 p.m.
During the above robberies, a knife or gun was displayed and cash was stolen. There were no injuries.
Additionally, Jack Hewitt was charged with one count of robbery for robbing 7-Eleven, located at 139 Sunrise Highway, East Patchogue, on September 26 at 3:08 a.m.
Jack Hewitt, 25, and Brice Hewitt 24, both of 112 Alder Drive, Mastic Beach, will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and Miller, 19, also of 112 Alder Drive, Mastic Beach, will be held overnight at the Fourth Precinct. All three will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on October 2.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
