The Suffolk County Police Department arrested two 14-year-old males for burglarizing the Idle Hour Mansion on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
Fifth Precinct patrol officers responded to a 9-11 call about youths vandalizing the building with spray paint on the campus of the old Dowling College, located at 150 Idle Hour Boulevard, at 4:25 p.m.
The suspects, who left the scene prior to police arrival, were located a short distance from the campus and placed under arrest. A backpack containing spray paint and a proceed from the burglary was recovered.
Fifth Squad detectives responded and charged the two 14-year-olds with burglary 3rd degree and making graffiti as juvenile delinquents. They were released to a parent and issued a family court appearance ticket.
This is the most recent arrest after a slew of apprehensions by the SCPD following calls for tips and releasing surveillance footage of suspects on the Idle Hour property.
On July 13, The Suffolk County News reported six arrests for crimes committed at the mansion in May that included hate crime graffiti that was condemned by local religious leaders.
On April 19, The Suffolk County News reported seven arrests made by the SCPD for crimes committed at the mansion dating back to June 2022.
Police commissioner Rodney Harrison has spoken in person at a prior Oakdale Civic Association meeting, where he vowed to commit patrol cars and additional surveillance on the beleaguered property.
