Nestled between deep-blue lights and handcrafted jellyfish was the Islip Arts Council’s Under the Sea Festival. A celebration of art and undersea life, the night was a treasure trove of activities for all.
Local artists were invited to create their own vision of the sea. Mermaids to waves and all sorts of seashells all painted a wide and unique vision of life in the ocean. Many local artists were on display, including Kiya Henry, Dennis Dubey, Tove Hasselriis Abrams, Angelica Kemp, and more.
The Du-ets added musical art to the gallery, letting their music carry throughout the venue as guests perused the paintings and displays.
An interactive under the sea maze was the centerpiece of the night, featuring multiple locales to explore. A bubble-filled labyrinth, a field of jellyfish beneath dangling lights, a treasure chest mystery and an outer space visit were all housed in the handmade experience.
Families were able to make the most of the night, enjoying arts and crafts that got everyone involved in the artistic process.
Raffle tickets at $5 a piece helped attendees give back to the IAC and their work putting together artistic events like the festival in the future. A VIP area also had attendees front row to the performances found throughout the night.
Under the Sea musicians Funamungus closed the night out with chill vibes, thanks to their experimental, improvisational style matching the ocean’s go with the flow. Glowing mushrooms and neon paints on the stage to the jellyfish umbrellas and bubble blowers showed that every little piece of the gallery from the entrance to the back was thought of.
The audience got involved for the band’s encore by using shakers to carve their own style into the music around them. The night had everyone become an artist in their own way.
