Village officials cut Alive After Five short

Posted

Those of you preparing for June’s first Alive After Five of the seasons, will now also need to be prepared to leave a half hour earlier at explicitly 9 p.m. rather than the usual 9:30 p.m. closing time, despite discussion of a possible 10 p.m. extension earlier this year.

Village officials have cited excessive drinking and unruly behavior as the major issue behind the decision. This behavior, according to officials, usually grows the later it is in the night.

Additionally, village employees are forced to work too many hours, coming in to start the day early and not leaving until late at night to accommodate the festival. Then, also being required to return to work the next Friday morning.

The village’s official record shows an initial approval for the Alive After Five dates with an approved with a 9:30 p.m.

The following dates include: Thursdays, June 29, July 13, July 27, and August 10 from 5-9 p.m. August 17 was also approved as the rain date.

Street closures will occur from 3:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Main Street from Maple to West Avenues and on South and North Ocean Avenues from Church Street to Oak Street.

The event will include live music, street vendors, and outdoor dining.
