Greater Sayville Food Pantry director Charlene Lehman updated the Suffolk County News on the robbery last week. “Initially, it was thought $250 was taken, but on further review, it was $60,” she said. Lehman said the mix-up occurred in the confusion of walking into The Gillette House and seeing the broken window over her desk, glass on the floor, and a file cabinet drawer forced open. After reporting the break-in to Suffolk County police, and their investigation with patrons walking in, it was discovered that money in another envelope was taken.
Lehman said she has been in touch with Mary Grace Frohman, from Islip Town Parks Department, about a possible alarm being installed.
On Tuesday morning, a new window was installed by the Town of Islip.
