WF basketball wins second consecutive league title

The William Floyd Colonials boys' varsity basketball team defeated Walt Whitman on Saturday, Feb. 3, by a score of 74-40 to clinch their second consecutive League I title! They are currently 18-0 overall (14-0 in League I), and are gearing up for an exciting playoff tournament. The New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA), in their latest rankings released January 30, has the Colonials ranked as the No. 12 Class AAA-ranked team in all of New York State.

The game, which was also the Hall of Fame game in which past student-athletes were honored, saw Dahmorian Moses lead the Colonials with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Jawuan Smith had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jayson Yourison added 12 points, and Jermaine King had eight points and 10 assists.

The Colonials have two games left in the regular season before the playoffs begin—this Wednesday, Feb. 7 at Patchogue-Medford then a home game on Monday, Feb. 12 against Brentwood!

Team members include: Geo Alvarez, Corey Bazemore, Adam Gulsen, Jermaine King, Joey McLaurin, Phillip Mitchell, Dahmorian Moses, Jawuan Smith, J.J. Smith, Sharod Sutton, Sae’Vion Ward, Jake Yourison and Jayson Yourison.

The coaching staff includes: Will Slinkosky, head coach, and assistant coaches Thomas Stines and Darrell Sumpter.
