William Floyd Colonials varsity football dominates regular season

It was another historic year for the William Floyd Colonials varsity football team who finished their regular season in dominating fashion with a 42-6 victory over Commack to cap off an 8-0 season, one which saw them outscore their opponents by a combined 285-57. For their efforts, the Colonials clinched the No. 1 seed, won their 24th Big Four Championship in program history, secured a playoff berth for the 22nd consecutive season and were ranked the No. 9 Class AA team in the state by the New York State Sportswriters Association. As the No. 1 seed, they clinched the opportunity to host two playoff games – meaning the road to Stony Brook and the Suffolk County Championship must go through Mastic Beach. The Colonials begin their quest this Saturday, November 5, at 2 pm, as they host Sachem East, a team they visited and defeated 35-13 nearly two weeks ago.

Led by Suffolk County Hall of Fame coach Paul Longo, the winningest public high school football coach in Suffolk County history, the Colonials have a long list of standout players on offense, defense and special teams. Senior quarterback LaDuke Harris (Newsday Top 100) has been a dynamic dual-threat all season, totaling 14 touchdowns both passing and rushing and racking up 836 total yards. Running back and fellow senior Dylan Harris (Newsday Top 100) has been a beast on the ground, accumulating 594 yards on 61 carries (9.7 yards per rush) and six touchdowns. Jason Pratt (253 rushing yards and four touchdowns) and Caden Lesiewicz (218 rushing yards and three touchdowns) added to the explosive Colonial rushing attack. Geo Alvarez led the Colonials in receiving with eight catches for 229 yards and four touchdowns.

On defense, Connor Taphouse, Aaron Fisher, Caden Lesiewicz and others led the charge for the Colonials all season. Taphouse finished the regular season with 41 tackles, 15 for a loss and 13 sacks. Aaron Fisher led the Colonials in tackles (50) and added six sacks of his own (second on the team). Lesiewicz showcased his two-way ability by leading the Colonials secondary with eight interceptions.

The Colonials currently have 13 Suffolk County titles following the 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons along with five Long Island Championships in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2012.
