The skies cleared just in time to celebrate the approximately 750 student members of the Class of 2023 at William Floyd High School’s 64th commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 24. Family and friends gathered to celebrate the K-12 milestone achievement of their loved ones, walking across the stage and receiving their diplomas. Commencement was also simultaneously livestreamed for those who could not be in attendance.
The ceremony kicked off with the Presentation of Colors by members of the William Floyd High School NJROTC, followed by a beautiful rendition of Francis Scott Key’s “The Star-Spangled Banner” as sung by the graduating seniors of the William Floyd High School chorus under the direction of Donia Rivera.
Commencement speakers included valedictorian Eric DiGiacomo and salutatorian Merry Vo Nguyen, along with board of education president April Coppola, who recognized the students who have enlisted in the Armed Forces; superintendent of schools Kevin M. Coster, William Floyd High School principal Philip Scotto, and Floyd Academy principal John DeBenedetto.
Special thanks to the Mastic and Mastic Beach fire departments for once again bringing their trucks and flying the American flag behind the stage!
