William Floyd High School senior named National Merit Commended Student

William Floyd High School senior Ariella Morano has been named a Commended Student in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program, an honor reserved for just 34,000 students throughout the nation who have been recognized for their exceptional academic promise and performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) taken during their junior year of high school. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2022 competition by taking the 2020 PSAT/NMSQT.

Ariella is a high-achieving student involved in many extracurricular activities both inside and outside of school. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Foreign Language Honor Society, the Science Honor Society, the Tri-M Music Honor Society (she plays the viola), the Youth & Government program, Student Government (member of the House of Delegates), is a member of the Chamber Orchestra, serves as the secretary of the Symphonic Orchestra, participates in the Stony Brook STEP (Science and Technology Entry Program) and is a member of the varsity tennis team. Outside of school, she plays viola with the Brookhaven Youth Orchestra and volunteers at the Lighthouse Mission in Bellport.
