Come visit Cosmic Dreams Apothecary

Cosmic Dreams Apothecary is a metaphysical supply store located in Islip. The store recently celebrated its second anniversary in October.

Initially, the business was named Cosmic Dreams, which was a soapery. Now, the store is a “medicinal apothecary” and a witch shop; they sell herbs that can be used for various purposes, including consumption, soaps, sprays, and more. In addition, they sell crystals, jewelry, tarot and oracle cards, books, incense, and oddities.

Kaela McKenna, one of the store’s owners, said one of her favorite parts of owning the business is that she gets to do so with her co-owner and best friend, Gina Gentile. McKenna also enjoys working with Gentile to bring witchcraft to people and help them understand witchcraft.

“People seem to think that it’s this kind of demonic sort of thing, instead of learning that the craft is literally from Mother Earth,” Gentile said. “It’s us learning how to heal ourselves physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and making sure we have all the products to do so.”

Herbs, incense, and crystals are their most popular items. People especially enjoy making tea out of the large selection of herbs they have to offer. Customers also like jewelry made with crystals rather than just the stone itself.

McKenna is the house tarot reader. Practitioners like McKenna use tarot cards to gain insight into the past, present, or future. They formulate a question and then draw cards to interpret them.

She teaches classes that include divination, which is the practice of determining the hidden significance or cause of events—sometimes foretelling the future—by various natural, psychological, and other techniques. She also teaches astrology, a five-week tarot course, and candle magic.

There are also DIY classes hosted by consignments. Usually, participants go home with something or learn a lot of new and interesting information.
