Arts council to ‘raise the bar even higher’

For its fourth year, the Patchogue Arts Council/Museum of Contemporary Art, in partnership with the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, will have its annual MoCA L.I.ghts show that encompasses the entire downtown Patchogue community in its expansive vision, with tailored art projections by local and international artists.

“It’s still amazing to us that in just three short years, this event has become such an integral part of our annual programming,” said PAC executive director, Beth Giacummo.

Growing in its four years from a conceptual sketch into a phenomenon that has captivated the imaginations of over 550,000 people, MoCA L.I.ghts is PAC’s most widely attended program ever produced by the organization.

Each year, the viewer turnout and caliber of work has “surpassed expectations, continuously exploring new horizons and leaving a lasting impression on every attendee every time those projectors power up, and 2023 will be no different!” said Giacummo.

With PAC MoCA’s accumulated experience in producing the remarkable event, Giacummo said they are determined “to raise the bar even higher… MoCA L.I.ghts 2023 promises to be a truly unforgettable experience, brimming with innovative features that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact.”

Among the additions planned for this year are illuminated works in the Sculpture Garden, an open call for performances, costumes, and wearable light forms, soundscape projections, interactive real-time performances, projections, expanded Art on the Marquee programming that will include The Suffolk, and a main projection installation curated in collaboration with Ma’s House—a nonprofit organization focused on promoting the work of indigenous artists from the Shinnecock Indian Reservation in Southampton.

“Points of Light” is a grand-scale community program that relies on the generous support of individuals and businesses to ensure its sustainability and success. Unlike ticketed events, MoCA L.I.ghts remains accessible to all members of the community.

“It is precisely for this reason that we invite you to consider making a meaningful contribution or becoming a sponsor. Your support will not only enable us to continue nurturing the arts and culture within our shared Long Island community, but also reinforce your commitment to our thriving region,” said Giacummo.

Collaborations with the Village of Patchogue, Patchogue BID, Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, Pat-Med Library, Cornell Cooperative Suffolk County & Marine Department, Suffolk Marquee, and Vanderbilt Museum have been established to MoCA L.I.ghts 2023.

Award-winning designer Jack Harris developed all materials as a dedicated volunteer to PAC.

“Together, we will continue to contribute culturally, educationally, and economically to the area,” said Giacummo. “We sincerely hope our sponsors will join the Patchogue Arts Council in our efforts to enliven our downtown with the arts for a long, long time. Together, we can create a legacy of innovation and see the limitless impacts the arts can have on the Village of Patchogue and its visitors from near and far.”
