A new shelter for passengers is among the changes coming to the Mastic-Shirley Long Island Rail Road station. The shelter will replace the existing station building, which has reached its useful life, an LIRR spokesperson said in a statement.

New LED lighting, bicycle racks, and signage are also coming as are repairs to the platform and improvements to the platform ramp.

The work is expected to be completed this coming winter for the station, which serves about 360 daily riders.

Ten of the station’s parking spaces will be unavailable during construction.
