Montauk cruises make the summer sparkle

Two-hour cruises showcase spectacular views

For spectacular sights and perfumed sea air, a local cruise off Montauk will introduce you to a Long Island sightseeing staple from a wholly sea perspective.

The Easy Breeze cruise company, founded in 2021 by Steve Houston, from Bayport, and J.R. Gibson, from Point Lookout, offers a trip around Montauk with drinks, food, and unbeatable views.

“We have wraparound windows with a bar on each of the two decks, so you never have to take your eyes off the amazing views,” said Houston, adding, “the top deck is open air, and the main deck is fully enclosed, allowing our guests to enjoy this unique Montauk experience in any weather.”

The idea came to Houston and Gibson last summer, when both were working for another cruise line and thought they could tailor an experience utilizing local merchants and a relaxed, island atmosphere on the water.

In October 2021, Easy Breeze LLC was formed, and later that month they acquired the Freedom dinner boat from Little River, S.C.

“The bones were very good, but we decided to update the aesthetic,” said Gibson.

With repainting and reengineering of the bars, the Freedom is now appropriately nautically and naturally yacht themed to reflect the upscale but enduring relaxation of the funship cruises.

There are three daily cruises on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as follows: the Roasted and Toasted from 1 pm to 3pm, where the sunshine peaks for tanning on the upperdeck; the Happy Hour Cruise from 4 pm to 6 pm, which offers drink special deals, and finally the Sunset Cruise from 7 pm to 9 pm, a very popular option for those seeking to end their day or get a jump start on their evening.

Monday through Thursday, Freedom takes all on board for the Sunset Cruise trip.

Prices per person vary from $25 to $40. Drinks and food are available for purchase.

For those looking for an extravaganza, the entire boat can be chartered and hold up to 130 people.

Freedom has hosted several chartered events already since its launch in Montauk late June of this year. Chartering the boat allows guests to have a private celebration with customized food and beverage options.

Most recently a themed “white party” charter took place and an upcoming corporate charter will be welcoming the employees to come on board.

Easy Breeze Cruises, LLC’s goal is to “help create memorable experiences no matter what the occasion,” according to Houston

“There are so many amazing businesses in Montauk that have really gone above and beyond to help us meet our patrons’ needs,” said Houston.

With their liquor license valid year-round, cruises can be held throughout the seasons, weather permitting, and subject to Coast Guard regulations.

“We plan to have cruises from Memorial Day to Halloween, but come spring/April, we will be ready,” said Gibson.

“What we hope people take away from this is how beautiful it is to be out on the open water,” said Houston, “There are just views you cannot have on land, and this is a way to see it for yourself.”
