The 30th annual, oldest Christmas boat parade on Long Island will take place on the Patchogue River on Nov. 21 and 22 with a Dolly Parton-inspired theme, chosen by the public on Facebook, of “A Holly Dolly Christmas.”
“The Patchogue River Christmas Boat Parade is excited to return for its 30th year, bringing a beloved holiday tradition back to the Patchogue Riverfront on the weekend before Thanksgiving. This year’s theme is ‘A Holly Dolly Country Christmas.’’ Each year, the committee looks for a theme that touches everyone’s heart; this year’s theme will definitely be a Christmas to remember!,” said Michele LaMartina, chairperson, Patchogue River Christmas Boat Parade. “Thanks to our generous sponsors, enthusiastic boaters, and the support of all our riverfront businesses, the Patchogue River Christmas Boat Parade Committee can continue to bring a family-friendly fun, free event to the community so everyone can enjoy themselves, create a memorable holiday experience for all ages, and enjoy everything the Patchogue Riverfront has to offer!”
The anticipated event will kick off the weekend on Saturday night, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m., with the very popular People’s Choice Award. Spectators of all ages will view 40 or so boats, at two different marinas. They will be connected by a H20 Limo Taxi service so drivers will only have to park once. The viewing will take place at Baymen’s Clam Bar and the Patch Bar & Grill.
After viewing at the marinas, spectators will be able to vote for the boat they like best. This year, they will still include the new category added last year: Best Music. The hours for the party are from 5 to 9 p.m. Both of the restaurants will be open for food and drinks.
The Patchogue River community has supported the Christmas Boat Parade, on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, continuously since 1996. The parade this year is on Sunday, Nov. 22. The start time from two years ago will continue, with a horn blast at 5 p.m. to signal the captains to “light ‘em up,” and Patchogue River will come alive with boats beautifully lit.
The parade will commence up the Patchogue River to the Sandspit. The judges, who brave the cold, are treated to the captains showing off their boats for trophies. Next up the river is Drift 82, followed by The Oar, The Patch Bar & Grill, FINS, and finally the Baymen’s Clam Bar.
Last but not least, the one we have all been waiting for, Santa Claus arrives to the amazement of all the children. For more information visit Facebook, Instagram and their website at patchogueboatparade.org.
